Cannabis & Coronavirus: What You Need to Know

By hahoakland

With COVID-19 (aka the Coronavirus) now being classified as a worldwide pandemic, you probably have a few questions about buying and using cannabis during these times. Don’t worry, we’re here to help. All Have a Heart locations are currently operating with strict sanitization and mitigation practices so you can buy great cannabis in a safe environment (you can read more about our safety measures here). In addition to being able to purchase cannabis at Have a Heart in safety, here are some basic precautions to know about using cannabis while Coronavirus is active:

Be Careful When Combining Tobacco and Cannabis

While combining tobacco and cannabis into a spliff is quite popular, the nicotine present in tobacco can put you at an elevated risk for respiratory distress. Tobacco use has always been known to be extremely harmful to your lungs. So when there is a virus going around that can add additional distress to your lungs, it’s best to take a break for a bit.

Don’t Share Joints. No Shotguns Either.

COVID-19 is spread by touching infected surfaces and breathing airborne germs. To vastly decrease the risk of getting or giving Coronavirus to your smoke buddies, try your best to not share joints, blunts, bowls, or bongs. Especially hold off on shotgunning and blowing smoke from one person to another. If you prefer smoking joints, simply buy a few extra grams or pre-rolls so everyone in your group has enough for themselves.

Wipe Down Bongs and Bowls Regularly

Just like washing your hands and sanitizing frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs and light switches, you should also be regularly wiping down any reusable smoking accessories. The Coronavirus can last for up to 3 days on glass, and you’ll need a cleaner that is at least 62% alcohol to kill it. The good news is that the traditional bong wash using isopropyl alcohol and salt is perfect for disinfecting any lingering Coronavirus.

Think About Temporarily Switching to Edibles if You’re in a High-Risk Pool

If you are over 60, suffer from chronic illness, or are immunocompromised, consider giving your lungs a break for the time being by switching to edibles. We have a wide range of edibles including tinctures, cookies, caramels, drinks, mints, gummies, and even ramen seasoning. If you haven’t used edibles in a while, remember that they take 45 – 90 minutes to kick in. So remember to start slow then work your way up.

Now May Be the Time to Stock Up on Vapes

Most vape batteries and cartridges are made in China. With China bearing the brunt of the Coronavirus, supply chains are being interrupted. This may lead to shortages of cartridges for growers to fill with their excellent extracts. If you love vaping, think about buying an extra cart or two until supply lines can return to normal.
