Bongs and Books: Cannabis Book Clubs are the Next Big Thing

By hahoakland

Winter is coming, and Samwell Tarly isn’t the only one who’s excited to hunker down with a stack of books. Here at Have a Heart Bothell, we’ve been hearing a lot about the next big thing: stoner book clubs. Though book clubs are traditionally associated with copious amounts of wine, happy Bothell club members report that passing the bong creates the perfect atmosphere for philosophical discussion, deep analysis, and, of course, laughing your head off.  Want to start your own stoner book club? Here at your favorite Seattle-area pot shop, we provide supplies and reading inspiration.

Here are a few ideas for your first selection:

“Though book clubs are traditionally associated with copious amounts of wine, happy Bothell club members report that passing the bong creates the perfect atmosphere for philosophical discussion, deep analysis, and, of course, laughing your head off.”

Wicked Plants by Amy Stewart

While imbibing in your favorite psychotropic plant, contemplate the world’s amazing array of psychoactive, poisonous, and healing plants. Filled with nifty illustrations, this book is funny, informative, and, yes, trippy.

The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R Tolkien

Those hobbits seem awfully into their “tobacco.” But we don’t read just for the references to smoke rings…The dreamy and inspiring influence of cannabis is the perfect accompaniment for a trip through Middle Earth, and nothing staves off the winter blues like contemplating second breakfast.

Weed: The User’s Guide by David Schmader

Seattle’s hometown hero delivers his usual hilarity in this guide to navigating the joys and pitfalls of pot, from how to make an apple into a pipe to what to do when you’re super high and your dog tries to stare you down.

Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon

Like weed-related high-jinks? This books for you. Light up a fat pre-rolled joint and contemplate the trials and tribulations of stoner professor Grady Tripp. With a story revolving around a dead snake, a velvet jacket that belonged to Marilyn Monroe, an imaginary jockey, and clouds of pot smoke, this is read just gets better with weed.

One final note from your friends at Have a Heart…

While you’re planning your snack platters, you might as well stay on theme.
