You Down with CBD?

By hahoakland

We’ve all been there: You walk into the shop only knowing you need a few grams of…something. You’re not married to any particular strain, and you’re not even sure what the differences are. You’ve got a pretty good handle on the differences between Sativa and Indica, but then there’s that other thing…those two percentage numbers on every bag. THC and CBD. This is where your knowledge starts to fall apart, and, yes you could definitely ask some of our incredibly friendly and helpful staff, but you might end up doing that thing you always do where you ask a question and then immediately forget and then feel a little sheepish and don’t want to ask again. Like we said, we have all been there, so let’s break down the differences between CBD and THC.

The short rap: THC gets you stoned, CBD decreases the negative side effects. It goes a little deeper than that, and we’ll talk about a few of the details, but that’s the top-level thing you need to understand. If you have a bag with high CBDs and low THC, you’re not going to feel as much of a high after you smoke it, your paranoia, if that happens, won’t be as strong.

On a more technical level, THC triggers what’s known as a CB1 cannabinoid receptor. The THC fits perfectly with this receptor, and causes the brain to send pleasure signals through your body. That’s why you like finishing off a whole bag of popcorn without batting an eye, or still have that beanbag chair from college because it’s just so damn comfortable after finishing off a joint. CBDs don’t fit into the CB1 receptor, and, in fact, can modulate the psychoactive properties of the THC, in other words, muting the high.

At the end of the day, you know what’s best for you. We recommend you experiment with a few different strains or edibles like CBD 10:1 capsules from Fairwinds and find that perfect balance of THC and CBD.

And don’t worry, we have qualified budtenders ready to help you find what you need at each of our locations.
