That’s Right, Weed Weddings are Totally a Thing Now

By hahoakland

To paraphrase Billy Idol, it’s a great time for a weed wedding. Just picture it: The tables are laden with mint petit-fours, canapes, and gorgeous bouquets in hand-thrown ceramic vases. The bride looks stunning in an off-the-shoulder gown, and the cakes are towering works of art. Content guests wander from tent to tent as the band strikes up a Louis Armstrong tune.

“Cannabis weddings are now a growth industry with the attendant specialists, consultants, wedding planners, and budtenders. And traditional wedding industry professionals like caterers and photographers are cashing in on the phenomenon by advertising their services as ‘cannabis friendly.’ But this is just the first wave.”

It’s a typical wedding on the classier end of the spectrum. But the discerning guest may note a few unusual details… At this wedding, the longest line is not at the conventional bar but at another tent that’s removed from the rest of the party.

Yes, the cannabis bar is the place to be. Here, a licensed weed sommelier loads bongs, introduces the selection at a dab bar, and dispenses custom cannabis cookies, tarts, and brownies.

Yes, this is a cannabis wedding. Not only does it have a bud bar (adults only and segregated from the rest of the party), but the flower arrangements showcase gorgeous flowers of Grape Ape and Blackberry soda. And those vases? They’re actually custom bongs. The party favors? Hand-blown canisters decorated in theme-colored ribbons and filled with pre-rolled joints. Even the ceremony features weed, with the bride and groom sharing a special pipe.

Cannabis weddings are now a growth industry with the attendant specialists, consultants, wedding planners, and budtenders. And traditional wedding industry professionals like caterers and photographers are cashing in on the phenomenon by advertising their services as “cannabis friendly.” But this is just the first wave.

Philip Wolf, the co-founder of the Cannabis Wedding Expo, has pointed out, “Down the road, people won’t call it a cannabis wedding, because bud bars will be normalized. Smoking creates a bonding aspect. People did it in ancient times. It enhances conversations.”
