Top 10 Weed Strains in Washington: Indica, Sativa, Hybrid, CBD

By hahoakland

Doesn’t it seem like every year the cannabis just keeps getting better and better? It’s not your imagination. Innovative breeders, cultivators, and geneticists keep coming out with great new strains. Yet, we decided to compile a list of the top 10 weed strains in Washington (plus a two bonus strains).

As you can imagine, limiting ourselves to ten strains wasn’t easy! (In fact, we had to add two bonus strains to fit in a couple of High-CBD strains.) Clearly, there are dozens (or, hundreds) of strains deserving to be on this list but didn’t want to go overboard. Given how many epic strains there are out there, we compiled this list by making sure we including a healthy mix of strains, representing indicas, sativas, hybrids, old strains, consistently popular strains, and even CBD strains.

Top 10 Weed Strains in Washington: INDICAS

Grand Daddy Purple

Type: Indica Dominant

Genetics: Purple Urkle X Big Bud

Flavor: Grape, Berry, Sweet

Effects: Relaxed, Sleepy, Happy, Euphoric, Munchies

Introduced in 2003 by Ken Estes, Granddaddy Purple (or GDP) is a famous indica cross between Purple Urkle and Big Bud. This California staple inherits a complex grape and berry aroma from its Purple Urkle parent, while Big Bud passes on its oversized, compact bud structure. GDP flowers bloom in shades of deep purple, a contrastive backdrop for its snow-like dusting of white crystal resin.

Motor Breath #15

Type: Indica Dominant

Genetics: Chem D X SFV OG

Flavor: Pure fuel and gas with Chem D flavors at the forefront

Effects: Powerful Head and Body High

Considered one of the best strains to debut in 2018, this strain traces its lineage to Chem D and SFV OG. With sky potency that can reach close to 30% THC, this strain is not for the novice. You’ll love its signature award-winning head and body high.

Motor Breath is great for recreational users and medical patients, particularly those suffering from chronic pain and other ailments. A few puffs and your worries will melt away.

The brains behind Motor Breath is @Sticky_ Icky_O.G, who found the incredibly desirable feminized cultivar, Chem D x SFV OG. The strain is also great for concentrates, so keep your eyes out!

Purple Punch

Type: Indica

Genetics: Granddaddy Purple x Larry OG

Flavor: Grape, Berry, Sweet

Effects: Relaxed, Euphoric, Happy, Sleepy, Uplifted

Purple Punch is the sweet and sedating union of two indica-dominant classics. By breeding Larry OG with Granddaddy Purple, the astonishing trichome laden Purple Punch was born, smelling of grape candy, blueberry muffins, and tart Kool-Aid. The potency of this strain gives the consumer a one-two punch to the head and body, initially landing between the eyes and settling down into the limbs. Purple Punch is a delicious dessert strain that is best suited for after dinner. Its effects may help with managing nausea, stress, minor body aches, and sleeplessness.

Purple Punch was bred and discovered by Supernova Gardens in Hawaii back in 2012. The company discovered a female Grand Daddy Purp from an old pack of Granddaddy Genetics’ GDP and crossed it with a Larry OG male from a pack of seeds from the Cali Connection. This variety was passed around to a few people, but it didn’t really find the spotlight until it got into the hands of @Budologist420 and @_TheVillage. Pictures of Purple Punch started showing up on Instagram a short while later, and that’s when it really started to take off. It’s some of the most photogenic and tasty cannabis around!

Sundae Driver

Type: Indica Dominant Hybrid

Genetics: Fruity Pebbles x Grape Pie

Flavor: Sweet, Chocolatey, Creamy

Effects: Powerful Body High, Relaxation, Restfulness

Coming from the Exotikz line of strains, Sundae Driver was popularized by its sister company Jungle Boys, alongside flavors like Strawberry Shortcake and Purple Punch. Living up to its name, Sundae Driver almost tastes exactly like the dessert, almost as if sugary marshmallow dust is dancing across your tongue when you inhale, with fine notes of chocolate syrup. Bred from a combination of Fruity Pebbles and Grape Pie, the Sundae Driver will relax you like an easy Sunday morning, or act as the perfect nightcap before you turn in for the evening.

A feminized cross of Fruity Pebbles x Grape Pie, Sundae Driver is one of the best weed strains of the year and represents another exquisite creation from Cannarado. This frosty variety exhibits incredible resin production with a scent and taste of grape-jelly donuts. The phenotype hunted down by Jungle Boyz caused a ruckus online with high-definition macro photos showing almost-white nuggets that look like they’re covered in tiny diamonds. Due to high demand, the resale value of these rare seeds jumped nearly 1,900 percent, so if you have an unopened pack of these, cherish them and grow out a mom of your own.

Top 10 Weed Strains in Washington: SATIVA

Jack Herer

Type: Sativa-dominant Hybrid Strain

Genetics: Haze hybrid x Northern Lights #5 x Shiva Skunk

Flavor: Pine, Woody, Earthy

Effects: Happy, Uplifted, Energetic, Euphoric, Focused

Jack Herer was created in the Netherlands in the mid-1990s, where it was later distributed by Dutch pharmacies as a recognized medical-grade strain. Since then, the spicy, pine-scented sativa has taken home numerous awards for its quality and potency. Many breeders have attempted to cultivate this staple strain themselves in sunny or Mediterranean climates, and indoor growers should wait 50 to 70 days for Jack Herer to flower.

Although the genetics are kept secret, it is believed Jack Herer stems from the lineage of Northern Lights mixed with the offspring of Shiva Skunk and Haze. It’s a world-renowned Sativa-dominant Hybrid strain that is known mostly for its ability to create a clear-headed buzz coupled with a boost of focused energy. Jack Herer has quickly become one of my go-to strains to bring an instant smile to my face and relieve any stress I can feel building up inside of me.

Jack Herer is a very popular day-time strain promoted by Jack Herer himself — a legendary, life-long activist and author of ‘The Hemperor Wears No Clothes,” which has sold over 600,000 copies. Now, the book is available to download for free for everyone to read and enjoy via the internet. Try the CBD 1:1 Jack Herer Distillate Applicator – Crystal Clear.

Durban Poison

Type: Sativa Landrace (100% Sativa)

Genetics: Landrace Strain

Flavor: Earthy, Pine, Sweet

Effects: Energetic (Like Espresso), Uplifted, Happy, Euphoric, Focused

landrace Sativa variety from South Africa, Durban Poison is known for its spicy/sweet anise-like smell and taste and it’s clear-headed cerebral effect. Though it’s a (normally) pure Sativa, most versions finish fairly quickly and don’t stretch like crazy. Many claim the real South African Durban Poison is very racy and finishes as long as 120 days, but that’s not the case for the versions available in seed form (Afropips and African Seeds seems to be the longest to finish).

A South African landrace variety, Durban is known for possessing a very distinct blend of sweet and spicy smells — fennel/anise, orange, lemon, and a creamy sweetness are the most common descriptors.

Green Crack

Type: Sativa-Dominant (65%:35%)

Genetics: Skunk #1

Flavor: Earthy, Sweet, Citrus, Lemon

Effects: Energetic, Happy, Uplifted, Focused, Euphoric

Similar to the likes of Blue Dream, Chemdawg, or OG Kush, the Green Crack strain has become a staple in the cannabis industry. It is a Sativa-dominant hybrid known to be very racy, with genetics linking to Skunk #1 and an unknown strain.

This strain’s famously compact bud structure, spicy/sweet flavor, and uplifting cerebral effect makes it obvious why Green Crack is so popular among MMJ patients.

How Will The Green Crack Cannabis Strain Affect Me? The Green Crack strain provides an extremely energetic (almost overwhelming) head-high that will have you bouncing off the walls (figuratively, not literally). Despite the strain’s name causing controversy within the industry, I do feel that the strain name is a playful identifier for the type of experience you may encounter when medicating Green Crack. “Green Crack is my ultimate go-to wake and bake strain.” Frankly, if a batch of Green Crack fails to make me clean my entire house, then I start to question how good the batch of Green Crack was… it’s that powerful. Often considered to be one of the most “heady” strains available, Green Crack is sativa-dominant [thanks to the overwhelming amount of Skunk #1 in its genetics].

Top 10 Weed Strains in Washington: HYBRID

Blue Sherbert

Type: Hybrid

Genetics: Sunset Sherbert x Blue Cookies

Flavor: Berry, blueberry, and sweet.

Effects: Creative, Euphoric, Relaxed. Powerful Cerebral High. Body Relaxation.

Sunset Sherbet, also sometimes referred to as Sunset Sherbert, (the names are literally interchangeable), is a sweet and intoxicating marijuana strain with a name that matches its uplifting effects and tasty flavor profile. Cannabis consumers love SS for its ability to turn sour moments into something beautiful, for the mood-altering abilities of this strain are powerful, as well as its capabilities of healing the body. It acts as a well-balanced medicine that is ideal particularly in the evening or later, after work hours, where this hybrid cannabis strain can shine best. The specific creation of this breed was the altering of a fan-favorite, Girl Scout Cookies.

Wedding Cake

Type: Hybrid (Slightly Indica Dominant)

Genetics: Girl Scout Cookies x Cherry Pie

Flavor: Delicious, just like a wedding cake! Hints of Cherry Pie, Cookies, Sugar, Spice, Ginger, Skunky

Effects: Relaxed, Happy, Euphoric, Uplifted, Hungry. Packs a serious punch!

Wedding Cake is a delicious hybrid, Indica-dominant weed. Its parents were themselves selected for their delicious tastes, these are Girl Scout Cookies weed, and Cherry Pie strain marijuana. The parents, in turn, have the genetics also of OG Kush, Durban Poison, and Granddaddy Purple, producing not only a delicious weed but one that packs a serious punch, with THC levels in excess of 25 percent.

Wedding Cake, also known as Pink Cookies, is the familial genetic cross of Girl Scout Cookies and Cherry Pie. This delectable treat is rich with tangy sweet earth and pepper, taking notes and dimension from its OG and Durban Poison parentage. Enjoy this double dose of dense dankness with care, as certain farms have noted THC content upwards of 25% or greater. Bar none, one of the best strains of 2018!

Blue Dream

Type: Hybrid (Slightly Sativa Dominant)

Genetics: Blueberry x Haze

Flavor: Berry, Blueberry, Sweet Berry

Effects: Happy, Relaxed, Euphoric, Uplifted, Creative

Blue Dream is a slightly sativa dominant hybrid (60% sativa/40% indica) strain that is a potent cross between the hugely popular Blueberry X Haze strains. This infamous bud boasts a moderately high THC level that ranges from 17-24% on average and a myriad of both indica and sativa effects. Users describe the Blue Dream high as having an immediate onset of an uplifting cerebral head high that leaves you completely motivated and focused with waves of creative energy that hit quickly and hard.

This is accompanied by a mellow relaxing body high that leaves you warmed, numb, and completely pain-free. Due to these potent combination effects, Blue Dream is said to be an ideal strain for treating patients suffering from conditions such as chronic stress, chronic pain due to injury or illness, mild to moderate cases of depression, and sleep disorders, including insomnia. Blue Dream has a delicious aroma of sweet blueberry pie and a taste of sugary sweet blueberries that stays on your tongue long after smoking. This bud has large dense yet fluffy popcorn-shaped bright neon green nugs with amber and blue hairs and rich blue undertones. These nugs are dusted with a fine layer of sandy milky white trichomes and sweet sticky resin.

TWO BONUS CBD STRAINS

CBD Canna-Tsu

Type: Hybrid

Genetics: Cannatonic x Sour Tsunami

Flavor: Lemon, Citrus, Woody, Earthy

Effects: Relaxed, Happy, Uplifted, Focused, Euphoric

Searching for a relaxing high-CBD strain? Canna-Tsu is the upbeat bud that has something to offer both medical and recreational consumers.

Canna-Tsu is a hybrid cannabis strain that combines genetics from two CBD-rich parents, Cannatonic and Sour Tsunami. Sweet earthy flavors activate on the exhale, complementing the subtle citrus aroma that radiates from Canna-Tsu’s buds. Because of its high-CBD, low-THC cannabinoid profile, Canna-Tsu delivers its mellow effects with mental clarity. Strains high in CBD like Canna-Tsu are highly demanded by patients treating pain, inflammation, anxiety, and seizures.

Searching for a new high-CBD strain to try? Those who happen to come across Canna-Tsu are in luck. This CBD strain features a surprisingly pleasant yet pungent aroma and close to a one to one ratio of CBD to THC. The result is an upbeat and relaxing bud perfect for taking the edge off of just about any occasion. Here’s why Canna-Tsu might just be one of the most lovable hybrids around.

Canna-Tsu is an easygoing hybrid cross between two respected high-CBD strains, Cannatonic and Sour Tsunami. Both strains are themselves hybrids, providing relaxed and upbeat experiences without a psychoactive high. The resulting lovechild, Canna-Tsu, is a happy-go-lucky kind of bud with some delightful mood-boosting properties.

CBD Cannatonic

Type: Hybrid

Genetics: MK Ultra x G13 Haze

Flavor: Sweet, Earthy, Woody.

Effects: Relaxed, Happy, Uplifted, Sleepy, Focused.

This strain is an even blend of sativa and indica (50:50 sativa/indica ratio). It’s a great medical strain high in CBD, a chemical used to treat severe seizures and other conditions. But it’s very low in THC 7–15% at most – so Cannatonic isn’t a good bet for getting high, despite its name. The high, such as it is, is relaxed and uplifting with both mental and physical qualities. Cannatonic has an earthy smell, with a woody citrus flavor. It’s most popular in the Pacific Northwest, California, and Michigan. This strain is best for treating epilepsy and pain, as it provides a deep feeling of relaxation with uplifting cerebral effects. Cannatonic is a hybrid blend of MK Ultra, an indica, and the legendary G-13 Haze, an indica-dominant hybrid. The strain was bred to produce a greater ratio of sativa to indica, and that helps keep the head high clear. Possible side effects include dry mouth, while anxiety and paranoia are less likely.

Top 10 Weed Strains in Washington: Closing Thoughts

Hi, I just want to ask if someone has any idea on which marijuana strain would be very effective when it comes with anxiety attacks and sleep disorder? I've been suffering for almost 2 months now and mostly can't sleep properly at night. I refrain my self on taking meds coz it seems doesn't work for me. So I started reading some alternative way for my problem and came across this article about querkle from https://eu.gyo.green/tga-subcool-seeds-querkle-tga-qkl-r.html/ and how it could help you relax but the problem is I don't smoke. But then I also found out that you can also make drinks or tea and even muffin/cake as an option aside from smoking it. Why they can't just simply make a pill out of marijuana if they say it could really be some help? Or maybe there are that I'm not aware of. If this is true I would gladly want to hear any of your experience and thoughts regarding this. Thanks in advance

I have found, being a trauma patient, of both kinds of trauma, and as recommended by my amazing psychotherapist .. that using strains heavily leaning towards pure indica lineage, made into edible oil, and take orally on an empty stomach *****was, and is**** the best to induce deep sleep, at first I was waking in the middle of my beloved REM and I'll tell ya, after being sleep deprived for so long, that I woke up to go to the bathroom and I was still in REM .. Crazy experience ... but was assured that is what happened. That being said, it has become my daily go to on an empty stomach before bed (food will interrupt the digestion for quite some time, making you want to go to bed when you should be waking up. Also, it acts as an amazing completely natural anti-inflammatory = my lower spine injury benefits tenfold. Another route is to order some CBD Isolate (be very careful on the price and authenticity of the product .. needing a good referral from a customer/patient who has had good experiences with CBD products. Isolate is pure and no messing around ..I'm about to receive my first CBD Isolate shipment (it's a pure powder of CBD and is a real thing ..just lots of scammers out there so be careful.) Back to the edibles .... find a good Canna Butter recipe online .. the simpler the better - it's the age-old recipe for hippy brownies .. except you make the "butter" and can use it without cooking into food. By the spoon or make capsules. All of this should keep you really busy researching on the web. Once you are comfortable with the dosing and experience of the edibles, try a hybrid strain for a recreational experience that will benefit the symptoms of whatever is causing your insomnia., But the real bottom line is this .. CBD IS THE GODSEND IT IS ALL CRACKED UP TO BE. Partake .. but unless there is something wrong, a healthy normal person would take cbd and not really feel any different. If you have anxiety, pain, panic, insomnia and a whole plethora of other afflictions ... CBD is for you ... again MAKE SURE IT IS AUTHENTIC ... you take it orally and within fifteen minutes to half an hour and all pain and anxiety melts away. NO OTHER EFFECT.S Hope this helps. JKOR p.s. As the previous writer wrote, Critical Mass is a high cbd strain

There are many different pills and methods to actually injest marijuana and the active chemicals nowadays. It sounds like you might benefit from an indica that will lull to sleep and some form of CBd I like to take mine as a sour gummy 2 gummies and I feel great. Another thing you can try is to come up with a bedtime ritual like have a bath read a book. Don’t exercise or watch tv before bed or it’ll have the opposite effect. Hope this helps.😁
