Have a Heart’s Guide to Pot and Paseo

By hahoakland

As any Emerald City local will tell you, the last few years have seen the loss of some seriously beloved — and not-so-beloved — Seattle institutions.

Of course, when a city is growing as rapidly as ours is, that’s bound to happen. It’s unavoidable. But when Paseo shut it’s doors? That was a different story, and it triggered a culinary mourning to a degree that even web-toed natives had never seen. Seriously, for the fantastic Caribbean sandwich joint’s abrupt shuttering to have had more of an impact, we’d have had to see flags lowered to half-mast and a black tarp draped over the Space Needle. It was that serious.Pot for Paseo

Now, we don’t have to get into some of the ugly gossip about exactly why we briefly lost access to Seattle’s most ethereal sandwiches. And we won’t. But fortunately, the gastro gods didn’t smite Seattle for long, and Paseo is back. So since the friendly budtenders at Fremont’s best pot shop are just a stone’s throw from this exquisite sandwich stop, we figured we’d make a few recommendations. And while we always stock plenty of edibles and extracts, when you love something as much as we love Paseo, you bring flowers. Here are some pairings we love.

Grilled Pork Sandwich and Banana Kush from Sirius Buds

While everything on the menu is divine, the Grilled Pork Sandwich is what put Paseo on the map, and if for some insane reason — and it be a pretty great reason — you haven’t tried it, it’s the only place to begin. Prepare for this otherworldly experience by toking up with some of Sirius Buds’ Caribbean-appropriate Banana Kush, and you’ll be transported to another realm.

Paseo Press and Key Lime Pie from Elevate

You think you’re had a Cuban sandwich? Well, maybe you have. Maybe you’ve gone to Miami and had one that was delivered one that was delivered by a couple doing the tango and smoking a Cohiba. That’s great. But until you’ve tasted this pressed, melted masterpiece, don’t call it the best you’ve ever had. Key Lime Pie is a favorite desert in Little Havana, so make sure to prepare with some hit of Elevate’s tart bud.

West Caribbean Bowl and Island Sweet Skunk from Whole Cannabis

The description on the menu describes this as the “second most popular bowl in the Caribbean,” get it? If you’re a Have a Heart regular, we know you likely will. And if you can tear yourself away from the sandwiches — we know, no small task — you owe it to yourself to check it out. Take out word for it here, and pair your meal with some tropical tokes of Island Sweet Skunk from Whole Cannabis. You won’t regret it.
