Cannabis Taste-Test: 5 Desserts to Try While High

By hahoakland

We’ll be blunt: We work hard here at Have a Heart. Whether it’s sourcing you the best possible tinctures, topicals, and edibles, making sure our dispensaries are always well-stocked and our menus are up-to-date, or keeping our friendly budtenders up on the latest cannabis news and research, we try to tackle all things cannabis.

Oh, and eating while high so we can draw up lists of our favorite foods.

As you’re likely very well aware, cannabis—especially high-THC varieties—tends to stimulate our appetite in several different ways. And sugary, rich foods (essentially, nearly all desserts) become especially irresistible when under the influence.

Yup, it’s a tough job, but someone’s got to do it. So without further ado, here’s the latest installment in the series we call simply “Eating While High.” This time, it’s a whirlwind tour to our favorite cannabis-friendly desserts.

Eating While High: 5 Desserts to Indulge in Right Now

Here’s our current list of some favorite sweet treats. Did we leave your must-have dessert out?

The Classic: Banana Split

The quintessential ice-cream sundae, this gooey confection was invented by David Strickler, an apprentice pharmacist at Tassel Pharmacy, in Latrobe, PA, in 1904 (no word on whether Strickler was, in fact, stoned out of his gourd). The textural experience is key here: Crunchy nuts, fluffy whipped cream, and the unique, sweet and pleasantly fibrous texture of the banana itself.

Decadent: Chocolate Mousse

Though this fluffy chocolate wonder is symbolic of French cuisine, it didn’t actually gain wide popularity until the late 19th century. Essentially a chilled, chocolate-laced confection based on whipped cream or egg whites, its texture will bewitch even those who haven’t ducked out to inhale a well-stuffed bowl right before dessert was served.

Exotic: Thai Mango and Sticky Rice

If you haven’t yet tried this exotic sweet, prepare to get hooked. All it entails are chunks of luscious, fresh mango—yes, they’re rich in myrcene, the most abundant terpene in cannabis—served over chewy, toothsome sticky rice. The secret is in the sauce, an equally sweet and salty thickened coconut milk. Fair warning: Prepare to have your mind blown.

High-Quality Vanilla Ice Cream or Gelato

There are a million ice cream options: The cheap supermarket stuff, the fancy gourmet stuff, the soft-serve like you used to get at Dairy Queen (actually scratch that, it’s not technically ice cream after all). But for our dollar, if you’re going to enjoy ice cream, you should splurge on the good stuff. Get a pint of the highest-quality, best-looking vanilla ice cream you can find. It’ll be richer—cheaper ice creams have much more air incorporated into them—and you’ll definitely taste the difference between imitation and real vanilla flavor.

Eating While High: Rice Krispies Treats

The ultimate stoner treat. While nearly anyone can prepare these no-brainer bars (ingredients: Butter, marshmallows, Rice Krispies), we recommend you make them before you get high. You may also want to ask someone to hide them from you. Eating an entire pan may feel good in the moment, but you may live to regret it….
